Language is the way that you express yourself. It is a vital tool for communication. It is a gift of god, helps us to develop ourselves, our minds and also our personality. It is an aspect, enable the people to gain the extensive knowledge. English is an international language and an official language in 53 countries. English as the ‘King of Languages’, plays vital role in the development and progress of the world. Being a global language, English language has occupied its place in all domains of world. English language is seen as a passport to the world. It is a master key to a great career in education, journalism, creative writing, mass communication, marketing and advertising, public relations, translation, media, administration, technology, banks, private sector and multinational companies.
The department of English was established in 1970. Graduate and postgraduate programs are taught in the department. In the graduate program English has been taught as a core component, composite course, disciplinary component and applied component. In the post graduate program, syllabus of Choice Based Credit System is being taught. Thus, the department of English has been catering to the needs of teaching English Language and Literature to B.A., B. Com., B.C.A. and M.A. programs to foster interest and creativity among the students in acquiring the skills of English Language, Communication and Literature.
The vision of the department is to enrich Communication, Business and Technical correspondence as well as soft skills of the students coming from the diverse social strata for the global competency and expertise and to promote artistic, creative and aesthetic sense of the students through language and literature.
The mission of the department is to imbibe listening, speaking, reading, writing and critical thinking skills not only in the academics of the students but also in their real life at large by offering opportunities to explore identity, values, manners, morals, facing challenges and achieving excellence.
The department of English conducts Bridge course, Short Term Certificate Course on Spoken English and Personality Development. The department runs ‘English Club’ very effectively. The department of English celebrates World Book Day, English Language Day and Birth Anniversary of William Shakespeare. Essay, Handwriting, Debate, Elocution Competition, Wallpaper Presentation, Poetry Reciting, Guest Lectures and Field Trips are conducted throughout the academic year. The Department of English has signed MoU with Department of English of Miraj Mahavidyalaya, Miraj. Through the collaboration, both the departments organise various activities with grand success.
The department is run by enthusiastic faculty members with innovative minds and having approachable, caring, passionate and committed traits. The department is proud that students are obtaining first class regularly and the percentage of passing is almost high. Faculty provide personal attention and offer academic and career guidance to the students. Many alumnae of the department are successful in Education, Administration, Technology, Business, Industry, Law, Police, Animation, Designing, Banking and Private Sector.
